ENMU Business Administration Major Ready for Real Estate Career

by Dillon Korte

Portales, NM (02/27/2019) — Christa Bratcher, who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business administration at Eastern New Mexico University, plans to work in the real estate industry.

"I hope to find a job that I love in real estate, where I would show houses and try to sell them to the best of my abilities," she says. "I hope to one day invest in my own real estate business where I will purchase the house, renovate it and try to resell it for a higher price in hopes of profit. I want to achieve happiness and to be able to say that I love what I do."

Christa, who is from Artesia, New Mexico, chose to attend Eastern because "it was close to home and my mom got her master's degree from the school."

Her favorite thing about life as an ENMU Greyhound is "being part of a small campus, because you really get the chance to meet all of your classmates."

Christa is a Chase Scholar, a scholarship program hosted by the Chase Foundation in Artesia. "It's for students who have shown that they excelled in high school and participated in extracurricular activities," she explains. "For example, I was on the varsity volleyball and golf team in Artesia along with maintaining a high GPA my whole high school career."

One of the faculty members who has made an impact on Christa is Crista Wiegel, instructor of business administration. "She is always sending our whole class helpful information. That information has helped me attend more events," she says.

The Dean's List honoree encourages students interested in her major to "always be studious, even when it gets hard. Be sure to put in your 110 percent because it will pay off in the end."

Christa works as an office assistant for ENMU Purchasing, where purchase orders and requisitions for the University are handled.

She was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and has one little sister. Her father works for the family-owned water irrigation service called Pecos Valley Pump, while her mother teaches special education at the preschool level.

Christa enjoys traveling, outdoor activities and hanging out with friends at the Einstein Bros. Bagels in the Golden Student Success Center (GSSC). "I really enjoy the atmosphere [at the GSSC]," she shares.
